Need data for another material, thread size, or thickness?
Friction drilling forms a connection by displacing, not removing, the base material. This creates a strong, integral bush with a thread length several times greater than the material thickness. The result is a lightweight, high-load connection ideal for structural and safety-critical applications in automotive, mobility, and machinery.

All Flowdrill connections are tested according to DIN EN ISO 898-2 and VDI 2230-1 to measure both pull-out strength and tightening torque.
Tests on mild steel (S235) and stainless steel (AISI 304) show that Flowdrill threads meet or exceed the performance of ISO grade 6, 8, and 10 nuts, even in thin-walled materials from 1.0 to 4.0 mm.
Results:
| Thread size | Thread size | Pull-out force (kN) | Tightening torque (Nm) | Equivalent ISO nut class |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M6 | 2 mm mild steel (S235) | ≈ 19.4 kN | ≈ 16 Nm | ISO Class 8 |
| M8 | 3 mm mild steel (S235) | ≈ 43 kN | ≈ 40 Nm | ISO Class 10 |
| M10 | 4 mm mild steel (S235) | ≈ 71.8 kN | ≈ 100 Nm | ISO Class 10 |
| M12 | 4 mm mild steel (S235) | ≈ 98 kN | ≈ 145 Nm | ISO Class 10 |
For individual thread sizes or reports, please provide in your material thickness, type of material and thread size, with this information we can use our database of previously tested threads.
